What is the one time in a woman's life when she is expected to be a wee bit selfish? It is forgiven if she acts a diva? It is expected that all our collective thoughts, good wishes, hopes, and dreams are all pinned on her?
Of course, her wedding day!
So, that logic extends to any events leading up to her day, right? Most especially her bridal shower? This day, we come together to shower HER with gifts, to shower HER with praise, to shower HER with all our love, adoration, and attention.
And when the bride is as beautiful and joyous as this one, it kind of makes it easy to shower her with attention!
But here's the thing. What does a bride do when all eyes are on her? When all attention is being spent on her welfare, her joy, her time in the spotlight? All the love in the room is being directed her way and her way only?
Well normally, she relishes in it, lavishing in the praise, delighting in the gifts, and really just using this joyous event to make sure everyone focuses their love and attention on her, her, and only her. Okay, maybe I am just referring to myself at my shower, but I digress.
Because this bride is different. This bride, when given the opportunity to demand the love and attention of her loved ones did one thing with it. She took that attention and pointed right at where it's really needed.
On children. Needy children. Children who won't be enjoying their Christmas as she will.
In lieu of favors, this bride stocked a Christmas tree full of gifts to be delivered to Toys for Tots. She took all the love she has been given and is just paying it forward to those who need it.
In the words of the great Oscar Wilde, "Who, being loved, is poor?"
